Zimbabwe: Sikandar Raja Named T20I Captain Against Ireland

On expected lines, Zimbabwe have made several changes to their T20 squad ahead of their next encounter against Ireland at home. Zimbabwe’s selectors have dropped four players from the squad after they failed to qualify for the T20 World Cup following a poor performance in the qualifiers.

Fast bowler Tendai Chatara, spinner Wellington Majakadza and opening batsmen Innocent Kaiya and Nick Welch have been left out. Leg spinners Brandon Mavuta and Tony Munyonga have been recalled and the selectors have also picked two uncapped players. 20-year-old batsman Brian Bennett, who was among the run-scorers in List A cricket for the Mountaineers recently, has been rewarded and 25-year-old fast bowler Trevor Gwandu has also been selected.

Sikandar Raza will continue to lead the team and will have the services of veteran Craig Erwin, who missed most of the qualifiers due to a groin injury. The three-match series begins on December 7 at the Harare Sports Club. The same venue will also host the next two matches on 9 and 10 December.

Squad: Sikandar Raza (captain), Brian Bennett, Ryan Burl, Craig Ervin, Trevor Gwandu, Luke Jongwe, Clive Madande, Wesley Madhewere, Tadivanashe Marumani, Brandon Mavutha, Carl Mumba, Tony Munyonga, Blessing Muzarabani, Richard Ngarwa, Sean Williams.
